Don't all partys have a whip as such for those who think of their career before party directives and policy's

The departure of Killian Forde is a loss to Sinn Féin. He made a big contribution and that deserves recogntion here and now. On the progressive left of politics, with good values, his integrity intelligence and energy will make him an asset to any party of which he is part.

No man is greater than the party and people do move on and it is to be expected that people will from time to time change party as their own views develop but it is a pity to lose someone of calibre. It is good however that he will continue in politics and as I have a lot of respect for his values I wish him well.

wondering how many others will leave SF ? there are some (few) shinners whom could actually be decent enough politicians were it not for their choice of parties, Brady in Wicklow strikes me as one, may even had made it as a TD in the last elections had it not been for the millstone of SF

I think this is just a one off, idiosyncratic, departure, not part of a wider phenomenon.

I've blogged this thread with the suggestion this is part of the party's brain drain... That may seem an exaggeration, but I think it's a problem the party is going to continue to have so long as it maintains its defensive attitude towards 'careerists' (ie individuals of considerable talent outside the leadership)...

Since the party suspended Francie Molloy, I don't think they had much choice... But I am not sure how well this democratic centralism is suited to electoral politics... I understand the current appeal to the movement, but the longer democratic engagement is the preferred strategy they have to do something to keep people like Killian inside the tent..
