Missed the interviews with him. Can anyone provide a brief summary of any excuses he may have made for leaving SF?

I only heard the one on Newstalk. The jist of it was that the leadership tries to micromanage too much within the party rather than giving its elected representatives a degree of freedom e.g. telling him to vote against the budget on Dublin City Council.

FutureTaoiseach - sticking to a clear position is important within a political party.

To an extent that's true. But taken too far, it leads to politicians becoming out of touch with the people who they are meant to represent e.g. on immigration - remember SF and Labour's stance in the Citizenship Referendum and how their supporters actually voted?. In Ireland's case, it has also resulted in the decline of the Dail as a chamber that holds the govt to account. Both developments bode ill for democracy in this country.

But who has a say in forming party policy. It seems that unelected and unelectable people have a greater say that elected reps.

Thanks for that. Seems to be a case against the party being disciplined and united more than anything else. To be honest i'm not to sure that other parties will give him free reign to do what he likes in the face of party policy. His call.

And does he think that the labour party will give him a free reign to vote as he likes ?
And could he tell us when exactly he had talks with the other parties' before the vote or after the vote.

He refused to confirm his intention to join Labour - stating simply that all will be revealed tomorrow.
