Well I'm not starting any new thread, the original comment wasn't mine and I've only heard a few rumours on twitter and text.

There's no need to let this thread be derailed, stay on topic please.

Problem is that he is still the party leader, not exactly the best thing for post Agreement SF in the Republic. And then the brother thing ...

Killian would be a big loss to Sinn Féin. There are a lot of unhappy people in Sinn Féin, including elected representatives. The party is in serious serious trouble.
"Irish citizens . . . on ratification of the Treaty could be forced to become Euro soldiers." Sinn Féin claim on Maastricht in 'Democracy or Dependency' p.6. in 1992.

Not just that, Killian's a pretty good local rep. And when Mary Lou was in Europe, was her first replacement, so if she got elected to the Dail and had to vacate her Europe seat, he'd take it automatically.

So, he was highly rated by the party, at least until recently when he voted against the budget.

But it seems, so far, and I must say to the best of my knowledge, a Dublincentric problem. Not much mention of discontent outside the capital. If there is I would love to hear about it.

Yes KF has gone it has been on the cards for a while as he has been offered the chance to stand for FG or Lab in the next GE.It certainly is a blow to SF in the capital but this has been the elephant in the room for his colleagues for quite a while and at least now the elepant is out.

indeed, you have to wonder why a supposedly "party of the left" is doing so poorly in the current climate, really serves to highlight how out of touch with their potential support base and many of their members they are....

they'll be better chances in FG or Labour, far easier to get elected with them then SF, but then again who knows what scandals will emerge in the near future
