The Ombudsman decides if there is any merit in it going before the relevant committee or if the petition is worthless.

Yes, that is true, that is the way it works, but the hanging party wont wait, Sinn Fein should ask hard question Journalists who wont do their job, those are very same people who accuse Sinn Fein of summary justice in the past.

It's all speculative, and there's nothing more speculative than calling what someone else's motivations and beliefs are. But, nevertheless, running with speculation, would it not be more a case of not knowing who told the truth, of having doubts?

It's easier in hindsight to say you always believed someone, once perhaps you have more evidence to support that opinion, than it is at a time when the allegations are fresh and the evidence flimsier. The previous Not Sure more easily becomes I Always Believed.

How does someone cover up a crime that they didn't commit, were not a material witness to, and that had already been reported to the police?

Whatever actions or inactions Gerry Adams is responsible for, they do not constitute covering up a crime.

You mean the gang of British agents appointed by paedophile protector/promoter Gerry Adams? I'll bet he wishes he still had Scap and the boys at his disposal recently.
