    Life of Sinn Fein

I posted a link in some other thread to Monty Python's Life of Brian as the whole Sinn Fein thing reminded me of a scene in that film.....Honest question.

Can someone please explain to me how come there are a plethora of Sinn Feins and a 32 Counties Movement - were they not once all together, and if they have gone their separate ways, who, in the words of MP, were the splitters?

Every single non-unionist party on the island, apart from the SDLP and the Greens, is essentially a split from Sinn Féin.

PSF, RSF, 32CSM, FF, FG, PDs, Labour (through DL)....all offshoots of SF.

That makes me proud to be a Green.
If there is a future, it will be Green.

They're an offshoot of FF, hence splitters from the splitters. Think of them as the People's Popular Front of Judea, or something

Des O'Malley would disagree with you, he claimed to be starting a new party to break the mould of civil war politics at the time.

Oh well if Des O'Malley claimed it, it must be true...

All the PDs came from FF (or FG in the case of McDowell). So they're part of the SF family tree, no matter how obnoxious they are.

Though the SDLP is not a split from Sinn Fein, it's founder leader, Paddy Devlin was a former member of the IRA.

The SDLP was founded from the remnants of the NI Labour Party, the National Democrats and Republican Labour. It's founder leader was not Paddy Devlin but Gerry Fitt, of course. Devlin was, however, an integral part of the party's foundation.
