    Am I a Progressive Democrat?

Ok, I am still newish to politics.ie

I am an American, hoping to someday gain Irish citizenship by descent.
Whether I would move to Ireland and become active in politics or not is another matter. (It is possible)

But if I did, would the Progressive Democrat Party be a good fit for me?

    My Views:
I consider myself left of center.
I support the right of workers to unionize and collectively bargain for higher wages.
I strongly favor universal health care, and don't think medical decisions should be left to private companies seeking a profit.
I am an environmentalist, seeking strong protections and regulations to save green spaces.
I believe in a limited role of government in the area of civil liberties.
....thus I think abortion should be an option available, I think govt needs warrants to wiretap, I think people should be able to own guns

I can go on further, but that is probably enough to figure out where I belong.

I will thank whoever replies in advance for letting me know what they think, and whether the Progressive Democratic Party or a different party would be best for me.

PS: Oh, and any party that favors expanding/easing the ability to gain citizenship by descent is certainly a party I would support.

No. The PDs are an ex-party.

    A poster of some consequence...

LOL, fine maybe I should have asked would I have been (past tense) a PD.

Note, yes, I have posted similar threads in all left leaning parties.

I see that. It's amusing. I hold almost the mirror image of your political views and am looking to move stateside fulltime in the future.

Cookie, for you then it is simple...

You are either a democrat, or a VERY liberal democrat.
    (lol)

You would have HATED George W. Bush, and liked Clinton.
(You might have been frustrated that Clinton didn't do enough)

If really frustrated that enough wasn't being done, you might go so far as to be a member of our Green Party.
    But they hardly exist.

Ok, then you'd be a Republican.

But at least we agree on the beer being good.

Within the spectrum of the Irish political scene the pegresive Democrats were far from left leaning.

    Left is all relative.

    I don't consider myself a socialist.
But in America, I am left leaning.

It is possible that in Ireland I would be right leaning. Part of my point in making these posts is to find out where I'd likely be.

If the PDs were not very left at all...who knows where I would have rated with them.

Left of centre - defo not the PDs
Supporting the rights of workers - PDs were really the political wing of IBEC (the employers group)
Enviroment - Not sure that the PDs have any substancial policies on the enviroment
The PDs were pro choice allright

Asking me I'd think your are more in line with Labour.
