Dear Colm...
you made your bed, now lie in it.
I'm ************************ed if I'm taking lectures from Colm O Gorman, while Mc Dowell carries on with his nonsense without a word from COG

He hasnt been quietwithout a word from COG
ROC, the title of this thread mentions that O'Gormon has criticised "all parties".Originally Posted by rockofcashel

To say that 'COG' hasn't said a word just makes you look stupid.
The standard of excellence is an infinite suggestiveness, naturalism is the one thing to be condemned.
This is going to take one hell of a piece of legislation to sort out and to win support across all parties especially on the age of consent issue.
You even saw it on Q&A last night that one set of proposals will seem to be practical and maybe allow consent say at age 14 and put a limit on the age differential although even that will cause problems with the 'honest mistake' defence. On the other hand some will want to see the status quo maintained to protect children/young adults.
I'm always amazed at how sometimes say 16 year olds are considered adults and sometimes children. Some civil liberty groups will call on 16 year olds to have the vote as they are mature, rational etc. and will then go apopletic if a 16 year old has been committing crimes and is held in an adult police cell or is sentenced to prison as this is totally unsuitable for a child etc.
And one other thing - when people say they need to consult children/young adults who do they talk to. There are so many different views in the younger age groups. I remember the National Youth Council as part of the National Alcohol task force pushing to rescind the extension in licensing hours (thursday to 12.30pm) whereas most young people seem to think this is nanny statism and all that.
Well, McDowell could start by consulting the youth wing of his own party. I think his origional legislation was inspired, but there was no chance of getting it past FG.
Interestingly enough, the parties seem to be divided Labour & PD vs FG & FG (sorry, don't know about Greens and SF) on the issue of consent.
Rainbow and coalition in tatters?

Yeah agree with that. Interesting that it split that way and maybe shows there is more similarity between Labour and PDs on the social side of things - exactly the point that Colm O'Gorman was making when he was quizzed about how he could consider joing Labour when he actually joined the PDs. I think I read before that a certain PD Dublin TD said she had voted for Ruairi Quinn before the PDs came along and we all know about Fiona and her support for Ivana Bacik during the Euro elections.Originally Posted by Dee Four

Any chance he'll explain what SF did wrong in this whole sorry affair ?
He's full of shi*t quite frankly.
That may offend people, but thats my opinion.
