    Motion of Dissolution

Tomorrow sees the Special Conference of the Progressive Democrats in Mullingar. A vote on the dissolution of the party is to take place.

    The schedule is:
    PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS
    AGENDA FOR SPECIAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE
    MULLINGAR PARK HOTEL
    SATURDAY 8 NOVEMBER 2008

    1. Opening Remarks – Party Chairman Peter Wyer

    1. Proposal from the Parliamentary Party to bring the Party to an end.

    1. Amendment to the above proposal from Damien O Dwyer (Limerick East), Teresa O Brien (Cork South Central) and Diane Duggan (Dublin South East) to support the continued existence of the Progressive Democrats as a Political Party.

    1. Proposal from the Parliamentary Party to amend the Party Constitution by the addition of a new Article 18 reading as follows:

    Article 18
    Dissolution

18.1 The Party may be dissolved by a Resolution passed at a Special National Conference called specifically for that purpose and carried by a majority of the members of the Party present in person and entitled to vote at the Conference.

18.2 On the passing of the Resolution referred to in Article 18.1 above, the National Executive shall become responsible for, and shall have all necessary power and authority to implement and finalise, the winding up and disposal of the assets and liabilities of the Party.

18.3 When the National Executive has satisfied itself that all the assets and liabilities of the Party have been wound up and disposed of in accordance with Article 18.2 above, it shall arrange for the delivery by hand to the Registrar of Political Parties of a letter signed by the Party Chairman, or by such other person on behalf of the Party as may be authorised by the National Executive to do so, notifying the Registrar of Political Parties that the Party no longer requires to remain registered in the Register of Political Parties.

18.4 Upon the delivery to the Registrar of Political Parties of the letter referred to in Article 18.3 above, the Resolution referred to in Article 18.1 above shall take effect and the Party shall for all purposes stand dissolved.”

5 Closing Remarks – Party Chairman Peter Wyer

I do hope, for the sake of Political Diversity in Ireland, that all PD members vote against this motion.

The party should disband and have a fairly dignified end. If the members decide to keep the party alive without any of its big names, they will just have a disaster in the next locals and end up like the Workers Party and very few people will even know that the party still exists.

If the PDs pass the motion tomorrow it will be a great day for Ireland.

If they don’t their leadership will flee leaving a headless party with very little grass root organisation.

Either way the party will cease to be a threat to the well being of the country.

I for one will drink a pint of stout or two tomorrow to celebrate their demise!!!!

I will not be dancing on their grave.

I would hate to see their legacy diminished by continuing as a tiny nominal party.

Time to pull down the curtain.

I hope the PDs continue and kick that vile Harney, that useless tosser Cannon, O'Malley and that gombeen Grealish out of the party. Maybe then the PD party can become something worth supporting instead of a means of providing a salary for the unemployable. The biggest mistake that the PDs ever made was shafting Pat Cox and giving Harney the "leadership". FF gombeen politics at its purest. It is no surprise that such cretinous actions end badly. And now the PDs are without leadership, without honour and without a future. Tomorrow they can change that or become a footnote on the political failure of gombeenism.

It doesn't matter whether the motion is passed or defeated the party is irrelevant and has been for quite some time.
