Why does nearly everyone insist on using attrocious grammar when writing the PDs. I know they are getting smaller but until they go down to one member, there is no apostrophe. Why does everyone find that so hard to grasp?

DOD: It's not necessarily wrong to use an apostrophe to indicate plural when dealing with an acronym.Originally Posted by DOD

It's 2008.
Who are the PDs?
"Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest." Mark Twain
“When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain.” Napoléon Bonaparte

The fact of the matter is that the ' comes after the "s" not before it. The s in the Democrats is not a signifer of a multiple, but a adjective.Originally Posted by factual
So, it would be there are a lot of PDs on this forum. The multiple is signified by tone.
The PDs' former member who owns this forum is a tremendous fellow altogether. The apostrophe after the s is possesive.
The apostrophe never violates the title Progressive Democrats or PDs .

That's not what he means. He means where people write PD's. I agree 100% with DOD. But then given that I have to pass a sign saying Cosgrave car's (sic) every day, I sometimes wonder about how English is taught in schools. Every person here (including myself) makes grammatical errors or spelling errors occasionally. But some posters seem unable to write a single sentence without littering it with spelling errors, grammatical errors and bizarre use of apostrophes. The PD's mistake is just the most obvious example.Originally Posted by factual

But thats what I mean. The PD's is presumably intended as a plural and its ok among some suthorities to use an apostrophe to indicate a plural when you are dealing with an acronym such as PD. In particular it is standard in the US.Originally Posted by NotDevsSon
