    Question

"The Progressive Democrats attempt to break the mould of Irish politics has benn undermined by their willingness to enter coalition governments. Discuss"

This was a question in my exam paper to-day, just want to get an answer from you. I roughly put this in my answer:

Won 14 seats in their first elections in 1987 and then then formed a coalition Govt. with Haughey breaking a FF principle, since they have been in Govt they have held important ministerial posts such as Health Minister - Harney and Justice Minister - McDowell. Have introduced there own policies ie some privatisation of health care. They are happy being in a coalition Govt.

Other side of arguement I put down that the PD's don't have enough support across the country possibly due to being a middle class party?, a poor record in Health service and law and order?, predominately (sp) a new kid on the block on terms of age of party ie formed 1985/1986?, too right wing and need to be more centralised?

Can someone be able to give a good answer to the above question?

    Thanks

Silly question, the PD's are the political whores of the country: they'd get into bed with anyone for money...

You're just jealous your party had to leave the election dance alone and return to your lonely, cold apartment to cry yourself to sleep with your stuffed animals.

Whereas our 20 year old, on-again off-again, relationship with FF needing spicing up so we invited the Greens in for a kinky three-way.

Like I've said before, we're a liberal party
Maybe the reason we're always in bed with FF goes to a level far more intimate than mere party politics

    Yes... pass the butter... yes.

I looked at this thread and saw the tags, 'money,' 'silly,' and 'whores,' and was very disappointed to discover it's just about the PDs. Two of those tags are, however, very appropriate..
