Harney offered Iveagh House, but chooses to stay in Health

Fianna Fáil has offered acting PD leader Mary Harney a transfer to the Department of Foreign Affairs, in a bid to overcome Green objections to her remaining in the Department of Health and Children. However, Ms Harney refused the offer outright and she is now set to resume her command of health, including the plan to build private hospitals on public hospital grounds, when the new Dáil meets on Thursday.

First 'two fingers' to the Greens before they even vote. What next?

Wow that's some gesture by Harney, putting the people before personal gain. Turning down one of the three big ministries in order to see out her porgramme in Health. I have to say that my personal respect for the woman has gone up hugely.

Harney is a power hungry bitch that will do anything to stay in government.

She is as bad as McDowell, in her own flatulent way.

Interesting. Part of her reasoning would obviously not wanting to be dictated to by the Greens. Also if she walked away from Health now she would be seen as a failure and FF could blame previously popular proposals on her.

I think we'll see alot more of this kind of friction between the PD's and the Greens in government down the line and FF will seek to capitalize on this by playing both parties off each other.

The IT wouldn’t be trying to stir it at all ahead of the Greens vote, would they?

It's a possibility right enough. They clearly have an agenda here.

    Fair play to Harney.

I admire her balls. If she isn't promised health then you can be sure she'd have pulled out and given Enda two more nominations.
