    The PD blame game

Liz O'Donnell on RTE seems to be hinting at dissatisfaction with McDowell's leadership, that he's partly to blame for their poor result. Any thoughts?

Micky D was either loved or hated... The PD party elected him as there leader and hence they rise or fall on that decision. She can not blame the leader for the swing against the whole party.

Think Parlon mentioned something about Justice as an issue that hurt the PDs.

Really? I imagine that Health would have been a much more contentious issue.

I am not a fan of Michael McDowell's but I think that he is being unfairly blamed here. I presume Mary Harney has retained (or is set to retain) her seat? I think I heard that amid the cacophony. I saw her as a much more maligned figure.

I think Parlon is trying to take advantage of the position so he can have another leadership contest. Conventional wisdom suggests that high profile ministers, even if their competency is in question, retain their seats. All of us can think of an example here. McDowell seems to be an exception for some reason.

I think the reasons for the PD losses are more complex than that.
