Michael McDowell's campaign posters could be illegal. Details have been disclosed to Politics.ie that show his campaign posters could very well be in breach of both the Offences Against the State Act and the Electoral Act.
Both pieces of legislation require the posters to have the name and address of the printer and publisher on the front of the poster. McDowell's posters have the names, but no addresses, and they're on the back, not the front.
Candidates are required to list both the name and address of the printer and publisher under the following legislation -
s 14 of the Offences against the State Act 1939
s 140 of the Electoral Act 1992
Penalties under the latter section are a fine of £500 and/or 3 months imprisonment.
