I'd like to get an answer on this either way: I'd been planning to switch to voting Greens in the next election, but I'll reconsider if they are genuinely willing to share power with Sinn Fein (a SF still led by men who were (allegedly) leaders of the IRA during its most vicious periods)

As always, what Trevor says about coalition options is irrelevant, as it will be up to the membership to decide on who to go into government with or not. For it to be ruled out, the membership would have to vote in advance of the election to rule out Sinn Féin, which is not going to happen.
Worth breaking my "no sig" rule for:

I think it shows the threat the Greens would pose to the economy

    ZZZZZzzzzzz.........

FT, your party's ostrich like attitude to the looming problems of peak oil and global warming are by far a greater threat to the economy then anything that the greens, or any party with an interest in the issue, is capable of doing.

What will be the economic output of Dublin when it's under ten feet of water?

What good will these stupid motorways be when oil runs out?

seems to me its just more desperate ramblings from a party thats redundant. the PDs are gonna implode at the next election and everyone knows it while SF on the other hand are probably gonna do better than expected because most people wont admit to voting for em when quized incase they get attacked by people with an agenda

its pretty obvious the two parties to make major inroads at the next election will be the greens and SF , mainly due to the protest vote that labour caught way back in the 90's that are still looking for an alternative to FF/FG / LAB non opposition who may as well amalgamate into one party for all the difference there is between them.

sooner or later the PDs will cop on that pontificating about parties that are far more representative of irish society them them only makes them look hypocritical because in reality most of the country dont want them in power, hence their poll rating. whilst the greens see the increase in support for SF and know they can capatilise on it through transfers by making the right noises.

looks to me like someones about to lose a seat

    Its wide open here

The Greens and Sinn Fein coupling their wagon and transferring votes could be the power broker in the next election if Bertie has not enough fish in his "Gene pool" to sneak back in.
It would be an incredibly astute move for them to move closer because both have policies which appeal to the common man who pays for everything in this government owned and paid for by elite vested interests, speculators, wealthy landowners, etc etc.
it would sideline both Fine Gael and the Labour Party.!!
If Bertie wants back in he might be even more accomodating than his mentor CJH was with Tony Gregory  !

im starting to think thats exactly whats going on. if FG dont bounce back from their disastrous performance in 02 then the party can confine itself to the level of irrelevancy as their casual supporters have either switched to FF because they dont see any difference between them anymore or theyre hopping into bed with the greens and sinn fein along with FFs casual vote to look for a genuine political alternative.

this could mean the death of FG as a party and probably see them fold into FF in order to stave off the "threat" of the more nationalistic anti establishment parties who actually do have a different political ideology which would then make it acceptable for the irrelevant PDs to follow suit.
LAB will either split at this stage or try to maintain a kingmaker status.

this is of course speculative and would probably take over 15yrs but its not impossible, particularly if the PDs get what i expect in the next dail (2seats) and the "alternative" do badly, the electorate is incredibly angry at this government but its not translating to votes for the old reliables . SF and the GREENS are the partys to watch for the future in that scenario. could be very interesting times ahead

Thought you said you didn't believe party polls?
"Elite - a small superior group; esp one that has a power out of proportion to its size." (Oxford English Dictionary)

The majority cannot therefore be the elite.
