    Motions passed at today's PD Party Conference

    The following are the motions passed at today's PD party conference:

    Of them, Dublin South East had motions on cafe bars and electronic voting passed (calls for Gov to go ahead with Cafe Bar proposals, and for a complete rejection on e-voting) - Dublin South East is McDowell's constituency.

    Conference welcomes the significant increases in Ireland's overseas aid
    budget in recent years and calls for the commitment to reach the 0.7% of GNP target to be achieved within the earliest possible timeframe.

    Conference calls for a new Planning Appeals System - with greater inclusion of rural organisations - to replace An Bord Pleanala in matters of Rural Planning.

    Conference calls for the State to purchase the removal of the M50 toll barriers.

    Conference calls for two new road safety initiatives which will identify hazardous crashed vehicles by the use of centralised crash data and the abolition of VAT on personal protective equipment for users of motorbikes and scooters.

    Conference believes that measures beyond those in the NDP are needed to fully promote balanced Regional Development.

    Conference calls for the expanding of the vote in the Seanad Éireann elections to include all third-level graduates in Ireland. (passed but with an amendment calling for reform of the Seanad).

    Conference calls for a debate on m eeting the challenges of diversity and integration.

    Conference calls for this Party to resist electronic voting.

    Conference recognises the pivotal role which educational attainment plays in the economic development of the regions and calls for the establishment of a University of the South East.

    Conference calls for a commitment to fund primary education to best international standards.

    Conference pledges the continuation of tax reform while implementing efficient value for money and reform of government services as Ireland now needs to compete with the emerging economies.

    Conference calls for the reform of the penal vehicle registration tax (VRT) system to incentivise low emission vehicles.

    Conference calls for the suspension of Benchmarking II until its value for money has been completely re-examined and that a reform of benchmarking be undertaken by a politically independent body.

    Conference calls for the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to be more open and transparent on the reasons behind case decisions.

    Conference commends An Tánaiste, Michael McDowell for highlighting inconsistencies in (a) prison sentences and (b) the granting of bail.

    Conference calls for a review of the proposed privacy legislation in the Party?s General Election Manifesto in particular to avoid the dangers of muzzling the press through court injunction.

    Conference calls on Government to reactivate the proposal for café bars .

    Conference agrees that sustainable development and a prosperous economy can go hand-in-hand.

    After over 20 years service to FF, even i'm thinking (strongly) of joining the pd's....michael is truly an inspiration........

    I see the PDs are still keeping their libertarian wing in check. I guess the PD principle of consumer choice can be set aside when it comes to mass medication of the populace. Or maybe they just want to boost the bottled water sector to drive people away from the bloated and inefficient public sector drinking water suppliers.

    Could someone explain this to me. Surely it is not necessary to use 'centralised crash data' to identify a crashed car. Usually the front of it is all smashed in, the windscreen has a 'head print' in it, and there are police nearby diverting traffic.

    How could such a stupidly worded motion be 'Passed'?
