    PDs launch new billboard campaign

The Progressive Democrats today launched a new billboard campaign. This billboard focuses on income tax and on the reductions in the top rate of income tax achieved by this government. That rate has been reduced from 48% to 41%. The poster focuses on the commitment of the government, should it be re-elected, to further cut the top rate by another 1% in Budget 2008.

Hmm, interesting. They wouldn't be feeling the heat would they? And would this have anything to do with FG's attacks recently?
Another aspect is that the PD's spending money now, before the election is even called, means less to spend when its really important.

I recall in 2002 dining with a (rich) Dail hopefull (unelected but sitting in the Senate presently) who was spending all of his money before the General Election was called. On being asked why this was the case, it was because of spending limits only apply during the election campaign, and not before it.

So perhaps the PDs are spending some excess cash they won't be able to spend during the election? Of course they could also be trying to push a positive image of their party, just like another party are at the moment with a similar approach (posters and such and such).

Thats true, but cash is still a depleting asset. The PD's dont have the resources that FF and FG have. And if you want to hide soft cash expenditure during an election, you can.

PD members should remember to take part in the raffle. The message that the PDs "get things done" is far more concise and attractive to the voter than the nasty US-style personalised negative campaigning of the Blueshirts.

Interesting that it is the higher rate that they focus on rather than the lower standard rate more people pay. Of course, it would be more sensible to focus on the lower rate if they had met their commitment to have less than 20% of taxpayers paying at the higher rate.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

Will this billboard actually be used, or is it an attempt at cheap publicity like another party tried? Interesting photo of McDowell, dont think I've ever seen him smile before.

The financial position of the PDs is interesting. They're a small party but have a wealthy following, anyone know what the figures for 2002 were?
