Teacher pension for politicians

Can anyone tell me what is and what is not permitted with regards a politician claiming the teacher's pension?

How long do you have to have served as a teacher before they are entitled to this?
For how long can they keep drawing down this pension? While they are in office, or forever?
How much do they get? Is it based on years served, or is it fixed?

Do they base the pension on the wages they received when they were actually in a classroom, or is it based on the wages of a teacher who qualified at the same time and has done the job ever since, been promoted etc. Instead of blocking up a position pandering to their own ego, Enda hasn't been near a classroom since 1975, but I would wager his pension will be calculated as a teacher who has been working for 36+ years.

Well actually Enda Kenny, according to reports, is the only one apparently who has stopped taking the teacher's pension. However he only did this to improve his profile as he did this ahead of the elections.
