This is just the start of outsourcing the public services and no it will not be a better service or cheaper done by a private company. It is part of the government agenda to downsize the public service, brought on by FF and their media cronies who started the campaign 2 years ago. The gullible public have bought into all of this, this forum is full of people looking for jobs to go int he public sector - well if you get what you wish for you will regret it. I know that the jobs are not gone yet they will be redeployed to other areas where vacancies exist because they are not recruiting staff but sooner or later they will start getting rid of the jobs as well.

Why does Ireland need any more jobs?. There are not enough people to fill the jobs from the last referendum.

I don't know, but I read that they couldn't break even (maybe because of all the waivers?), so that's why they had to let it go...

AFAIK you are free to purchase waste collection from any private operator. Greyhound do not have a monopoly. I believe DCC have been making losses on this service for years which means other tax & rate payers are subsidising DCC waste collection customers.

A quick search for residential waste collection Dublin gives:

    https://www.accesswaste.com/webclient/splashpage
I cant post pics but their main page states "due to the restructuring of residential waste services in Dublin, signup of new residential customers has been postponed until Spring 2012"

I heard a bin man on whineline earlier, moaning that anyone who joined up after the 70s now does not get a lump sum of 40k at retirement, but just gets a 400e pension a wk, please tell me that this is the only pension that they get and not the state pension as well ???

Greyhound will only continue with the service if they make a profit - therefore one can only agree with not continuing to support loss making non-transparent DCC activities.

The fact that the employees were not transferred to Greyhound gives an idea of the employees Ts & Cs

Now - when is that incinerator being fired up?
