    'Cyprus' Vance and bertyisms

Apologies if this has been done before but I am trying to compile list of bertyisms along the following lines and not in any chronological order:

'Cyprus' Vance-during visit of US Secretary of State, Cyrus Vance, during Clinton administration.

    upset the apple 'tart'-

'smoke and daggers'-conflation of 'cloak and dagger' with 'smoke and mirrors'

I would be most welcome if people could fill in context, date etc and add to the list.

    Thanks.

Vance was not Secretary of State in the Clinton administration. He was Jimmy Carter's first Secretary of State.

He served as UN Special envoy to Bosnia in the early 1990s. He later developed Alzheimers so didn't serve in Clinton's administration. Warren Christopher was Clintons' first secretary of state.

    Thanks for the correction!
Do you recall his visit to Ireland when he was referred to as 'Cyprus'?

There was the one where he said he refused to "condemn" when he meant "condone"
    Can't remember the context

Delighted to see Mr Ahern back on Six One tonight described as a "Dublin Fan".

A few years ago while on holiday in Kenmare he compained about some LuLu jumping out of the bushs at him!

Haha I remember the Lulu one, that was funny

He once said something about we should stop throwing white elephants and red herrings at each other.

There's a book called the 'De Little Book of Bertie' by Will Hanifan which has all his Beriteism's in it going back to the 80's.
