This isn’t Blasphemous.

    Cake’s silent Minority…

Blasphemy 101: Tutorial What is Blasphemy?

Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern proposes to insert a new section into the Defamation Bill making blasphemy an offense. But what IS blasphemy?

To illustrate our points we will use two images of a well known public figure - who is not God.

    Image 1:

We would all agree that this is a perfectly pleasant image. No blasphemy there.

Now we examine image number two.

    Image 2:

For a number of reasons, this image could be regarded as being ‘blasphemous' - but ONLY if the sitter was ‘a power greater than ourselves.’
('Brian is Not a Messiah' therefore this does not count as blasphemy.) But for the purposes of illustration, let's for a moment hypothesize that he is, and, let us also suppose that he has a Flock of very devout Followers. We will call them FF for short.

Observation 1: Blasphemy is the use of the name of a deity in a manner which is considered objectionable by the deities followers. In this case that name would be’ BIFFO’ or 'BIF' for short. It may include using this name as a stress expletive without intention to speak sacredly of matters. As ‘BIFFO’ is a derogatory term, the FF would find it both objectionable and irreverent.

Observation 2: Blasphemy is also sometimes defined as language expressing disapproved beliefs, or disbelief . Does Brian really wear Y-Fronts? Are you expressing disbelief?

Observation 3: An indignity offered to the deity in words, writing, signs, paintings , photo shopped pictures all over the internet, videos on Youtube , irreverent blogs or satire. In this case the entire Flock were offended. (The FF are denied Internet access.)

Observation 4: "Blasphemy" may be used by extension to describe any display of gross irreverence towards any person or thing deemed worthy of exalted esteem.

NB: In some countries, these restrictions have the force of law.

‘‘RTE would like to apologize for any personal offense caused to Mr Cowen … or for any disrespect shown to the office of An Taoiseach …"

Google still haven't apologized. This is a sign of irreverence and is, therefore, blasphemous.

    We hope this helps.

Disclaimer: Brian is not a Supreme being, he is just a man with a philosophy:

“As long as I am running this Government, I will run the Government as I see fit, as I believe it, based on my philosophy. I will run this country on the basis as I see it.” Brian Cowen Jan 2009

    Ezekiel 25:17…

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.

    Blessed is he

who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak
through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children.

And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
And you will know that this is my way and my philosophy when I lay my budget of vengeance upon thee.

The following gives thanks to Mr. Q. Tarrantino
