Funny you mentioned 'carpet bagger' . I was going to use that as one of the tags....

I think the feeling is that they could hardly be worse. I'd nearly take Beyoncé over Brian Cowen at this stage.

O'Carroll appeared in Fine Gael's PPB for the 97 Presidential Election.

He endorsed Mary Banotti.

Funny you say?
Its only a chat, we ain't the world council.
In 2000 the Women's Institute in Britain gave Tony Blair the slow hand clap to demonstrate their contempt.
It was dignified, restrained and effective.Doesn't Bertie deserve the same scorn. No shouting, no abuse, no agression just a relentless slow clap whenever he speaks in public would be enough to end that man's presidential fantasy.

I definitely read that O’Carroll was in Mensa before. I think the times had a section covering IQ testing in their Saturday magazine a year or two ago. Here’s a similar bit from the examiner.

“Mr Schulman said Irish Mensa members included captains of industry and even some of our politicians, although he refused to name names. He would admit that comedian Brendan O'Carroll was a member, and added: "He's very proud to be as well."

Irish Examiner - 2005/02/05: Irish the world's brainiest, says Mensa

Aside from all this if he did run there would be certain inevitabilities. You know he would campaign for a short period as Mrs. Brown using cack innuendo like “give me one in the polling station”.

We could get a competition going for the best ‘cack Mrs. Brown election quote” going.

God for a second there I though it said "Brendan O Connor". If that was the case I'd be getting the first one way ticket out of here.
