    Letter to employees

    Letter from Management to employees

    Dear employees,

Due to the current financial situation caused by the slowdown of economy,
Management has decided to implement a scheme to put workers of 40 years of age and above on early retirement. This scheme will be known as RAPE (Retire Aged People Early).
Persons selected to be RAPED can apply to management to be eligible for the SHAFT scheme (Special Help After Forced Termination). Persons who have been RAPED and SHAFTED will be reviewed under the SCREW programme (Scheme Covering Retired Early Workers). A person may be RAPED once, SHAFTED twice and SCREWED as many times as Management deems appropriate.
Persons who have been RAPED can only get AIDS (Additional Income for Dependants & Spouse) or HERPES (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel Early Severance).
Obviously persons who have AIDS or HERPES will not be SHAFTED or SCREWED any further by Management.
Persons who are not RAPED and are staying on will receive as much S H I T (Special High Intensity Training) as possible. Management has always prided itself on the amount of S H I T it gives employees. Should you feel that you do not receive enough S H I T, please bring to the attention of your Supervisor.
They have been trained to give you all the S H I T you can get.

I can see the point you are trying to make but the sexual violence implicit in the language makes it impossible for me to read it. I understand that what it is describing is extremely ugly also. I'm not saying I'm "offended", just that its too suggestive of violence for me to be able to read it and i don't think its necessary to use language like that to make your point. I can't imagine what it might be like for anyone who has been a victim of sexual violence who might see the thread title "letter to employees" and click in to read it. It might cause someone to relive a trauma. The thread title could suggest that its not for the sensitive, yes?

Agree wholeheartedly with Mar Tweedy. I would ask that this post be removed, please.

Er - by your logic, victims of crime would never read newspapers.

I suggest that people should be more offended by the actions of cowboy bankers and our complicit, idiot government.

We all need a laugh these days and I laughed heartily.

You should say, by your reading of my logic.
I don't recall ever reading an article like that in a newspaper. It would be difficult not to know the content of a piece in a newspaper before reading it because usually subeditors put headings on top to indicate what it is about.
I am more offended by the actions of cowboy bankers and our complicit, idiot government and clearly said that i am not 'offended' by this thread.

I am drawing attention to the fact that lots of people are more affected by violent language more than others and that people posting, in my view, should be aware of that. I am happy that the violent imagery used holds no threat for you, but that is not the case for everyone.

This post is posted in Political Humour, take it in the context it was meant, there is nothing graphic in the post.

Rape is appalling, but that's for another thread.

You see I accessed it from the latest discussions page, but even if you access it from the humour page there is no indication that of what it contains. I'm not in any way suggesting that there is any humour being made out of real rape nor that anyone who finds this funny finds anything funny at all about real rape, but the imagery of rape is graphic especially in the context of being shafted and screwed.

Yeah, yeah, i'm a party pooper - but all i'm asking for is an awareness of how language used can impact on others. If this is something that doesn't matter to you, you won't get what i'm saying anyway.
