Funny, I got the follow from Paddy Power yesterday.

I PREDICT A RIOT! - Paddy Power Economic Crisis Betting-

With the global economic crisis setting the agenda for the world’s media, Ireland’s largest bookmaker, Paddy Power, reckon it’s only a matter of time before people take to the streets in protest against the dire state of affairs. The maverick bookie is offering odds on which major city will first fall victim to riots motivated by economic circumstances, with New York installed as their 9/4 favourite.

Paddy Power said “If people get even the slightest hint that their pensions or savings are in jeopardy its not a massive leap of faith to presume there will be widespread civil unrest faster than you can say ‘where did we leave the water cannon?”

In stark contrast to the economic difficulties being experienced by the US and Europe, China are busy space walking after astronaut Zhi Zhigang successfully achieved the nations first 15-minute space walk.

Could this be a return to the top for China? China was the largest economy on earth for most of the recorded history of the past two millennia. Paddy Power are offering just 5/2 that China will overtake the Eurozone and the US in the race to be the world’s strongest economy by 2010.

    Economic Crisis Betting

First major City to riot due to economic factors/influences?

    9/4 New York

    3/1 Paris

    10/3 Washington

    9/2 London

    7/1 Dublin

    8/1 Manchester

    8/1 Tokyo

What will be the World’s largest economy on 01/01/2010?

    Evs Eurozone

    11/10 USA

    5/2 China

    8/1 Japan

    16/1 Russian Federation

    20/1 India

    25/1 Canada

    100/1 Other

Measured in GDP for year 2009 (as reported by World Bank)

    London's Burning

40/1 London to back-out of hosting the 2012 Olympics due to economic difficulties?

Unlikely - I doubt the 'patriots' involved in that riot are able to read
