    RTE.ie not Bulmers drinkers?

The used a file photo of a HP Bulmers bottle in the below story. Nothing to do with Bulmers/Magners.

I need to get out more.

Bulmers of Clonmel not HP Bulmers of Hereford.

They really should employ some journalists in RTE.

Totally different companies. That's why Bulmers is called Magners up your end of the country.

    Re: RTE.ie not Bulmers drinkers?

There are two completely different companies which produce "Bulmers Cider". Traditionally they were confined to Ireland and to England. However when the Irish Bulmers (owned by C&C) entered the UK market they could not use the Bulmers name as a Bulmers Cider already existed, so use the brand Magners.

I believe Hanley's point is that the photo being used here is not of the C&C's label (Irish Bulmers and Magners), but that of the UK Bulmers. The story however, refers to employees of C&C.

There is actually a case for defamation in that, as it might give the non discerning reader the impression that they were employees of the English company. There is a case in Irish law where RTE were talking about drink driving and showing various cars driving past. One of the drivers of the cars in the snippet (happened to be a barrister) sued in defamation on the basis that it might bring one to the conclusion that they were a drink driver.
