Swedish feminists target wide-legged male commuters

Please form an orderly queue to decry this as political correctness (aka Pee See) gone mad. Swedish feminists have set up a website (Source 1 below) targetting male commuters who take up more than their fair share of space on buses or trains - especially the wide-knee types who sit with their legs apart at an angle approaching 180 degrees.

They say they "believe in a world where gender does not play a part in the opportunities, rights and responsibilities we have" and condemn the "normalized and often invisible and unconscious power of expression in a casual and communal area". Taking up more than your fair share of space and invading someone else's is "not only an act of power but also of stereotypical masculinity".

Some insist that women face far greater problems like violence, under-representation in politics and unequal pay. But they say "all the little details are important".

They take photos and put them on the website to show what they mean. They insist this is not illegal. Maybe in Sweden it's legal to take photos of people's crotches and publish them. Or maybe it's legal if the person who owns the crotch is male. Maybe it's the same here.

I put this is the Humour section since they do say that they're taking a light-hearted approach but they see a serious side too. Whether it belongs in the section for Humour, Transport, Chat or even The Zoo is for the moderators to decide.

Ridiculous but typically swedish. Honestly, as much as I like Sweden, there's some really bizarre and stupid things that go on up there. I put it down to the utter boredom.

That crossed my mind as well but then again it would be sexist and exploitative! Guaranteed to make journeys on public transport a lot more interesting though.

Being a guy of modest stature, I will admit to having been irritated on occasion by lanky guys (and some not so lanky) who sit beside me and feel they have the right to half of my leg space as well as their own. However, a quick dig in the ribs or a whack of my knee puts them right.

There is - I think - the lingering fear amongst the vast majority of males that they might be seen to be "coming on" to another guy. It's the ones who keep their knee up against mine after the dig/whack that worry me.
