Old threads never die they just run out of yarn

Have you ever been involved in a thread that just suddenly dies. Back and forth the posts go and then bang nothing. Maybe there is a bit of revival in the middle of the night from those in strange time zones or strange sleeping patterns but that's that.

How can we give threads a decent burial? Most have a beginning, middle and then.....
Some are still born strangled at birth with maybe only 2 or 3 responses - so sad. I've been there
Others never seem to die - the climate change debate thread has a life of its own even if it is meant to be about the end of life as we know it.

Any thoughts on how to mark the end of a good thread and give it a good send off into the archives?

You would never have agreement on when that time had come.

Yes indeed, the climate change debate thread could be sent to the Zoo in the Sky, who is not sick of ownedtojoy and his various planetary bodies trying to convince us the world is flat.

The sane voices of reason are drowned out in the youtubery and endless hobbled together graphs from different datasets that end at "inconvenient" periods of cooling.

I think your reason will not be listened to Fides.

They never come back from the zoo.

Strangely, the majority of threads in the zoo have more sense to them than the one's that remain.

Maybe the thread opener should have the right to close a thread.
The closing post. might outline that the thread has been closed and will be archived forthwith.
Maybe, there should be an appeals board appointed which will listen to requests to reopen the thread if there is public demand to do so.
The appeals board should be chaired by the OPer and one poster that is a good cop and one poster who is an absolute cnut.
The most important consideration is to keep it simple.

Excellent, who gets to appoint the appeals board? Will there be lists? Aside from the Oper, will the additional people on the appeals board be told which category they are assumed to fall under? That could be fun...
