IMF team staying in five-star Merrion Hotel. Seriously?

I'm putting this in the humour section because it's actually beyond parody.

The IMF team that has come here to slash spending and raise tax and basically cut the living standards of (nearly) every Irish citizen for at least a generation is staying in Dublin's luxurious and very expensive Merrion Hotel opposite the Department of Finance and Government Buildings.

    Check it out yourselves:

    And here's their rates:

Joe Duffy has just announced on Liveline that the IMF team has booked 16 (SIXTEEN) rooms for THREE weeks. He did say the IMF was paying but you can all do the sums yourself.

I wonder will they all being tucking into lunch and dinner in the hotel's restaurant - the rather pricey Two Michelin Star Gilbaud's where a decent nosh-up with a cheap bottle of vino or two will set you back around €400.

I really hope he is joking. Please tells us you were winding us up, Joe.

I am really angry now and must step away from the keyboard.

But I ask this before I go:

IMF/EU?FF - ARE YOU ALL TAKING THE F**KING P1SS OUT OF THE IRISH PEOPLE?

They're paying for it. They can stay wherever they want.

    And get used to this:

The IMF don't give a fukk what you think about anything.

Where would you expect them to stay, some B&B? The Merrion is close it the city centre and all the government buildings.

If they take the decisions that our useless politicians were afraid to take, then they more than deserve some creature comforts.

Yes. The folks who have had to come in to run a country due to the failures of the government repeatedly elected by the people of Ireland are surprisingly not staying in a hostel during their time here. They're the top professionals in their field. They're going to stay in the best hotel the way any CEO or CFO of a company would.

Ah but they're great lads really, sure didn't they walk all the way to the central bank.
Listening to the radio right now, a lot of people are of the opinion that these people are our saviours. I wonder what their opinion will be in 5-10 years time.

They're paying for themselves, though we will probably graciously take the bill. Putting them up in a B&B of O'Connell st would hardly set the right impression!

I stayed there once at the height of the boom (God bless the credit card companies) for one night. It was great: silver teapots, plush bedrooms, beautiful wines and so on.

It seems a bit stupid for the IMF to stay there- the optics are bad. I hope they bargained with them and got a good rate

If we paid more heed to where we are spending our own money & cared less about what the Jones' are up to we might be able to get out of this mess.
