Good news, the pothole is no longer in danger of extinction,
The Irish pothole, remember them .20 years ago the country was riddled with them they were a menace they had reached epidemic proportions and then something happened. They country started to get wealthier .I don’t really know what started this but I suspect the 1990 world cup played a major part in the uplifting of the islands spirits
.suddenly things started to move lots of houses started to be built and lots and lots of new cars. This was a threat to the pothole, for years it had inflicted its damage on clapped out old bangers. In this new era of wealth it was decided to rid Ireland of the dreaded pothole. Teams of expert pothole hunters scoured the roads armed with a tar boiler and a whacker plate. As time passed this was replaced by huge machines that just resurfaced the entire road every few years. The poor pothole was driven to the point of extinction, surviving only on bog roads and in the odd neglected driveway. But alas, things have changed. The huge road surfacing machines have been repossessed even the fearless pothole hunters have had their day. County managers in the need to keep themselves in the luxury they have become accustomed to have had to sack most of the pothole hunters. The ones that remain wander the roads tackling the larger of the potholes with some loose stone chips and the back of a well breast fed shovel knowing that their days are numbered.
The pothole population made a miraculous recovery, spreading through the road network like a woodworm on cocaine. Popping up everywhere and anywhere helped by the fact that not a drain or ditch along the roads had not been cleaned in 20 years, why bother, haven’t we all this money to constantly resurface why would we need to worry about drainage.
So, there you have it .the re-emergence of a once thought extinct entity. Now in full bloom and reproducing at an alarming rate. A true good news story.
