As stated this Onion piece is currently very popular - I swapped in Benedict for John Paul II - in order to keep it current

Never mind. Your thread title got the reaction you were hoping it would, so you must be pleased. It's all over Twitter you say, so it must be an important piece of work.

I would be interested to know if you would post this on any website set up for victims of this awful abuse.

As for your comment about some users being more easily offended, were offence to be taken to it by a victim of these crimes not deserve consideration in your value system?
Oh God some secondary school teacher is power tripping outside the classroom.

The op mocks the arrogant way in which the church has handled child abuse for so long. The fact is that even in todays letter the pope refers to breaches in cannon law. No statement is made that priest and hierarchy failed to comply with there duties as citizens in making reports to police.

even now we have bishops claiming that Diarmuid Martin is not defending the churches position enough. What a sham of a hierarchy we have in the catholic church. If you had any decency it would be there actions that you would find offensive.

Read my earlier posts, you dope! No one is defending the perpetrators and those who covered it up in this, least of all me!

Sensitivity to victims' feelings obviously doesn't rate highly with you. I respectfully suggest that you examine your own standards of decency.

Since you question my motives, point to a post where I have defended the Catholic Church in this matter. Don't let that, of course, get in the way of your rant.

As for me being a "sniveling" (sic - I suggest you learn to spell) worm, I suggest that you would do better to crawl back under whatever stone you came out from.

your right. Its unfair to insult you without reading your other posts.

I don't know if your aware of this but there is a little feature here on P.ie that allows users to read through ever post another user has ever made.

skimming through yours it is now apparent that my original appraisal of you was absolutely correct. your just another little right winger who is defending mother church on another flank. also a lot of your posts seem to be used to insult other users, Not to disagree with them but generally to insult them personally. Do you think you might be in need of some anger management counselling.

I don't see anything wrong with the OP.

Who is going to be offended by it?

Hardly victims of clerical child abuse!

At this point... I think I'll re post the OP... just to stay on track

I'm not sure, whilst this is a progressive step a simple blanket absolution of all these naughty children may not be the best way forward.

    Pope Forgives Molested Children
VATICAN CITY—Calling forgiveness "one of the highest virtues taught to us by Jesus," Pope Benedict issued a papal decree Saturday absolving priest-molested children of all sin.

    ...

"As Jesus said, 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone,'" the pope continued. "We must send a clear message to these hundreds—perhaps thousands—of children whose sinful ways have tempted so many of the church's servants into lustful violation of their holy vows of celibacy. The church forgives them for their transgressions and looks upon them not with intolerance, but compassion."
    ...
Margaret Leahy, 39, a Somerville, MA, homemaker and mother of one of the alleged seducers, expressed relief over the pope's announcement.

"For months, I feared that my boy—and the dozens of others who committed sinful acts with Father Halloran before he was moved to the safety of another parish to protect him from further temptation at their pre-pubescent hands—was going to Hell for what he'd done,"...
However, not everyone within the Catholic church is so supportive of the pope's actions.

"What kind of a message is the pope sending today's children? That it's okay to seduce priests?" said one concerned Baltimore priest who asked to remain anonymous due to a pending court case.

Yeah, throw the dirt in the hope that some of it sticks, pathetic. Point to the post, please. It wasn't me who accused another of being a snivelling worm, now was it?
