"What do you do?"- "I'm in construction,"

Ray Liotta's Henry Hill takes new girlfriend Karen (Lorraine Bracco) to dinner. They enter the Copa via the back door, go through the kitchen and are led onto the dancefloor and to the best table in the house. In one unbroken three-and-a-half minutes' shot, the camera (operated by several times Oscar-nominated Michael Ballhaus) glides with them. "What do you do?" she asks as they sit. "I'm in construction," shrugs Henry, and the shot ends.

It is a great scene, no question. As Mafia films go, "Goodfellas" is one of the very best.

It is a pity that somebody knowledgable from Ireland didn't advise Scorcese on context.

"Marty, you need to establish in the viewers mind that he owns a company belonging to a lobby group that basically owns the governing party who formulate policy almost exclusively for the benefit of that lobby group. Then the line "I'm in construction" would carry a lot more menace"

Presumably back in the day Seán Dunne got similar treatment when he took Gayle Killilea to L'Ecrivain. Class film.

And, as scenes go, surely the "Funny how?" scene is unsurpassed?
