Massive Irish Army build up on Donegal Border

It has been reported on Highland Radio that 400 Irish soldiers have massed in Donegal to take part in ‘an exercise.’

Are we about to witness the political masterstroke from Biffo that everyone is Fianna Fáil has been hoping for i.e. the launch an all out attack across the border in an effort to take back the 4th Green Field with all Biffo’s domestic woes disappearing overnight in the wave of national fervour that would result.

    Or

Maybe the 400 are just building base camp to get ready for a massive Christmas shopping spree invasion of Derry and Strabane.

Below is the actual report from Highland Radio so I’ll leave it to you to make your own mind up:

Soldiers descend on Donegal for training exercise
    Nov 09, 9:48 am
”A special military exercise gets underway in Donegal today with over 400 troops descending on the county.

”The 4 Western Brigade of the Irish army will conduct the exercise around Lough Gartan near Churchill.

”Troops will arrive in Killybegs by naval ship this evening while others from the bases at Finner Camp and Athlone will be transported by road and an Air Corps helicopter.

”Press Officer of the 4 Western Brigade Commandant Rory McCorley says the public should not be concerned by an increase in activity.

Are the lads coming from Athlone flying/driving across Northern Ireland to get there or will it be the semi circular loop to make an entrance from Sligo thru Bundoran and onwards?

Finner Camp is in Donegal, so that just leaves troops from Athlone.
So in reality the announcement should've been...
"Some troops from Athlone are coming up to Donegal for the weekend.Should be good craic. Might call into the Mount Errigal Hotel later for a few jars. Now heres' shome Red Hurley. Highland Radio comin' at ya."

I find it difficult to believe that the current FF government would deliberately get us kicked around in the belief that it would make them more popular.

Getting ready for the spring riots, I suppose. Or else they are going to take down the border, as a sort of tribute to the end of the Berlin Wall.

Sounds like an invasion exercise all right.

I'm sure someone with an inside track will give us a hint.

They'd resort to Invade Derry and Tyrone to prevent Cross-border shopping?
