Should Labour be calling on president to refer bill to Supreme court ?

Surely the president should not be pressurised like this ? Even if she's not, the perception would be widespread. The decision on whether or not to refer the bill to the supreme court is her's and her's alone ( having , if needs be, consulted the council of state ).

If she did as they wished, she would be following in the steps of President Cearbhaill O'Dalaigh (called a "thundering disgrace" by FG Defence Minister Paddy Donegan) who referred a special-powers bill to the Supreme Court, prompting his own resignation. She should do know such thing, and shame on the Labour party for putting the rights of criminals before those the law-abiding majority in society.

After Roy Collins murder, Ruaidhri Quinn advocated the intorduction of internment without trial for gang members on the Week in Politics.

Now they're objecting to a relatively mild extension of an established system of jury-less courts.

    This smacks of shameless opportunism.

Surely the danger to human rights of indiscriminate internment without trial is a tad greater than a modified form of actual trial?
