    David Norris and Ronan Mullen

I was just watching Oireachtas report just there and boy does Norris hate Mullen. Norris called Mullen a few choice names in the Seanad today. They could not be further apart on the Independent benches. Whereas Mullen did not even raise his voice Norris went off like a spoilt child in a china shop.

Norris hates Catholics (he's made several public snides about the Catholic Church), so it's hardly surprising.

Mullen was being perfectly calm, perfectly reasonable and was exercising his right to make a point. He behaved in a dignified manner when under attack from Norris and opted not to become ensnared in Norris's trap knowing full well that the public ire would be unleashed on tonight's Oireachtas Report at this most sensitive time.

In fairness, Mullen circa 1992 was against decriminalisation of homosexuality (on a 'hate the sin, love the sinner' basis), whereas Norris has never supported re-introduction of the Penal Laws, so that would make Norris more tolerant of Mullen than vice-versa....

Also Norris has several friends who are Catholics - not sure Mullen can say the same about non-clerical homosexuals.

You do realise that you've written a contradiction in your post don't you?

Criticising the church means you hate catholics?!?!

That's a bit far-fetched. If he happened to be catholic and criticise the church, what then?

I cannot stand Norris. Mullen is a good man. Whatever you do not like about his views, at least he does not attack you for them like Norris.

While I understand your point, that sounds a bit like the old "some of my best friends are foreigners" rant introduction...

Although he's more likely to support laws that lock people up for their views.....

I cannot stand Mullen. Norris is a good man.

He is tolerant, inclusive and believes that people should be allowed to live
    their lives as they choose.

Mullen is a catholic fundamentalist who would deny others the right to live as they choose.

Talk about hysterical overstatement. The fact is that he remained calm in the face of Norris' obnoxious *************************ing, which speaks better of him than it does of Norris.

Edit: that's a lot of asterisks for a relatively short word...
