Government to take 12-day Dáil Holiday for St Patrick's Day

The Government has come under opposition attack in the Dáil this morning for taking a parliamentary break of almost two weeks for St Patrick's Day.

The Government has voted through a motion endorsing a 12-day break from this evening until Tuesday, March 24.

Speaking in the House, Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said there was no reason why TDs couldn't return next Wednesday and Thursday.

At a time of a national economic emergency, how can a 12 day holiday be justified?

They do less damage when the Dail isn't sitting?

    Or the ESB.

The TV standard lighting and the heating will stay on full blast.

Unless somebody has stepped in and made savings, without holding a press conference to claim credit?

This and the 3,000 euro pay hike are their gombeen way of saying 'let them eat cake'...

This is the most hateful anguish of all among men, to understand much and to prevail in nothing.

The norweigan prime minister who runs one of the world's most advanced, progressive and richest countries is on around 100k a year. Brian Clowen is on nearly 300k. It is a fecking joke that leaves you feeling angry and sick. The German ambassador was right, we have gone mad and paid ourselves long term Rolls Royce wages based on a short term bumper income. One can only conclude that everyone who works for the state is vastly overpaid by EU and world standards CONSIDERING we are now a basket case economy and will never have the income levels we had in 2007 again. Who the F do we think we are?

And I think you'll find that your TD will be accessible to constituents throughout this period - TDs from all parties are incredibly overworked in terms of the numbers of hours they put in.
