Dáil rejects move to cap Bankers' pay

Dáil rejects move to cap Bankers' pay according to Anne Doyle on Nine news.

    Anyone have details?

How is this consistent with promises from various government sources that bankers pay would be capped. I know it must be but just can't quite see it at the moment.

The legislation to allow the ring fenced national pension fund to be raided to prop up the banks for another bit passed no bother.

The problem was that the idea was in what's known as an Opposition motion (from labour).

The government wants what's known as Cooperation from the Opposition, but on no account does it want to Cooperate with them, because that would be wrong. Apparently.

Everyone should file this one away to remind the scum when they come around the doorsteps.
Cowen promised only on SATURDAY to do exactly this. Then organises a whip to vote it down. What an utter buffoon he is.

Think Joan Burton said on RTE Drivetime that the Labour Party proposed a cap of €250,000 and the Govt. defeated it.

    That's ridiculous.

You'd barely get a Bank Manager for that, let alone a CEO.

Why didn't they just go the whole hog and propose that CEOs earn the Average Industrial Wage?

Yeh, we keep hearing how we need to have Bank executives paid obscene amounts....from other bank people. There is surely a moral argument here that the CEO of any bank having their assetts guaranteed by the state should not be paid more than a government minister.
