right
thinking outloud here so correct me if i am worng.
166 td's returned to the Dail, minus ceann comhairle leaves 165 meaning for majority govt need 83.
after the last election they had 91 seats, ff 78, green 6 pd 2 ind 5
having lost seamus brennan and tony gregory and the support of finian Mc Grath and with the movement of BCF they now have
ff 78 green 6 pd 2 and ind 2 adding up to 88.
my question is with two seats empty due to the death of td's is the majority vote for toaiseach based on the total of the house i.e. 83, or the total vote available ie 82?
if its 82 then the greens leaving govt unless joined by michael lowry would be meaning less, but if its the 83 then surely they have themselves some leverage that they should be using.
then again if ff lose both by-elections then the greens will again have some leverage.
there is a very negative view of the greens in govt on this forum in general, but do youlot think that with a bit more leverage they will actually achieve more or are we looking at a meesy rainbow of everyone else but ff and pd???
