Labour may vote against Anglo takeover in Dail next week.

Eamon Gilmore has said his party will not support the state takeover unless the government moves to give the taxpayer full information about the bank.

In what way does this differ from the Green Party position?

The Greens will vote for it.

A bit odd - nationalisation should be a Labour ideal no?
Marxists, Feminists and Leftists operate on the basis of "liberating tolerance" - i.e. their ideas should be tolerated, and any opposition should be suppressed.

Very odd for Labour to have this position but I am glad one party is calling for information to be revealed.

Well in fairness, Eamon Ryan gave a commitment to ensure full transparency on Anglo. Thing is, only one group can ensure that - FF, and Ryan and the greens neglect to tell us what they'll do if FF stymie their commitment to openness.

Why is it even a question that Fine Gael & Labour should be voting against every single thing this government does - their votes make no difference anyhow so they might as well stop pretending otherwise and not bother even turning up and take away all legitimacy from this lot of wasters.

Well what we are getting here is nationalisation of an enormous black hole.
    Profits have already been privatised.

FG need to very careful that FF dont use the bank to get their builder/developer friends off the hook of the guarantees they gave to Ango-Irish Bank.
At a minimum the board should be subject to a 65% majority confirmation by the Dail.
Otherwise we will have a new board of Des Richardson, Joe Burke not to mention thick lips's Tullamore developer friends.

Why doesn't someone ask John Bruton how he can justify claiming a full Oireacthas pension givne he is under 65 and also in receipt of a full EU income and God only knows how much unvouched for expenses - both paid for by the Irish taxpayer.

Fine Gael has little credibility until it gets it's own house in order otherwise it's asking for troulbe when a journo finds out how much extra in pensions and allowances various FGers - past and present - are claiming on top of being under 65 and still in full time employment.

EoD - lets just keep the eye on the ball.
The last thing this country needs is FF controlling Anglo-Irish and tearing up the personal guarantees signed by their friends from the galway tent.

The sums involved make pension arrangements look like small beer.
Anyway, we can only change the pension rules when we get this crowd out of office.

Can both things not be done at the same time?

All it takes for Bruton to stop is to return the payments - it's quite easy. There is no justification for him - not just him of course as there are loads of pensions and allowance paid that are morally unjustifiable to people in all parties and none - but it would add credence to Kenny if things are so bad that other people have to take a hit.

It is totally unacceptable that the Oireacthas does not lead by example in cutbacks from their own pockets directly and even still they are still vastly overpaid - you and I both know that.
