Donie Cassidy does it again!

Cathaorleach of the Seanad Donie Cassidy has followed up his recent ground breaking initiative on road safety with a further imaginative suggestion on the issue of Ireland’s drinking culture.

Responding to the request yesterday by Labour Senators for an urgent debate on the matter he acceded to the request ruling that such a discussion would however be limited to members of the Pioneer & Total Abstinence Association. Given that there are just 4 senators who don’t imbibe (Labhras O Murchu, Pat Callanan, Pat Moylan as well as a certain Donie Cassidy) the generous offer was declined by the Seanad.

Given that the 4 senators can in no way be held responsible for the drinks culture surely their suggestions as to how to tackle the problem may well lack the research and critical analysis of the problem which some other members of the Seanad could bring to such a debate. It’s a bit like asking a vegetarian how to roast a duck.

Heaven forbid the Seanad debate something topical and in a mature fashion.
After the Locals, put someone else in as Leader of the Senate.

Cassidy is not Cathaoirleach. He is Fianna Fail leader in the Seanad.
