Kieran Jack McGinley - He is a regional president of SIPTU but will he be taking the Labour whip if he manages to get elected?

Jack might be known to anyone who was in Trinity in the late-90's and remembers the long running library strike he orchestrated. It rumbled on for at least 5 years and made getting books out of stacks in Santry a challenge on a regular basis.

Oh yes! That count. Hopefully he will now experience the same frustration at not being elected as all of us did in filling out those blue library dockets

I have been looking through the lists of Seanad panel candidates. It is possible to identify party affiliations for most of them, but some remain a mystery (to me anyway).

Does anybody know what (if any) party the following belong to:

Cultural and Educational Panel
Michael Merrigan - I think (from a Google search) that he has a Labour background but if (and it would seem to be a big if) he is elected will he be an Independent?

Michael Merrigan is a member of the Labour Party in Dun Laoghaire, he was nominated by the Genealogical Society of Ireland and is running as in Independent. He is a well respected and hardworking community activist who has wide ranging experience. It's an uphill battle for him but if elected he'd make an excellent senator. Edwin Finnegan is FF. He owns The Bottle Tower in Churchtown and is a Brennan man.
