John and brother Paul O'Donoghue have gotten themselves into a pickle over the NUI panel election. From the outset John (the Ceann Comhairle) gave a commitment to support longtime supporter Liam Crowley a Killorglin based solicitor that he would actively canvass votes for him from NUI voters. However, allegedly unknown to either John or Paul their sister Dr. Mary O'Riordan put herself forward as a candidate. Needless to say this leaves them in something of a pickle.
Allegedly, Paul a Kerry County Cllr. has sent his vote on the NUI panel back in having given his No.1 to Crowley ahead of his sister. There is no word from the Bull but as CC he is prevented from making any public statements and of course could not be seen to canvass or favour any candidate.
