When a poster uses verbs like 'screeches' and 'gibbers' to describe writing, yeah, they're probably not all there or approaching the thread out of a desire to contribute to reasonable debate. Like. But anyway.

The more rabid right-wingers, like John Biffo, always on their guard for "smoked salmon socialists" under their cots, will tell you exactly who the "wasters" are:

    (a) anyone who works in a non-profit-making organisation, y'know, teachers, nurses, firemen,

    (b) anyone who can't work in profit-making companies, like the sick, the disabled and the elderly,

    (c) anyone who used to have a job in a profit-making company but who is now on the dole, through little fault of their own but often because of the incompetence of the "wealth-creators" who selflessly (apparently) "create jobs for others" - this type of scumbag skiving having become very popular among "wasters" since 2008.

Oh, let's not forget the "wasters" who don't belong to any of these groups, but who speak up for them.

If it weren't for the "wasters", perhaps we'd have created the Emerald Utopia, with the massive de-regulation of business activities allowing people like Sean Quinn, David Drumm and Seanie Fitzgerald to show us how responsible the "wealth creators" are by nature.

    Goddamn the "wasters".

Actually every country below us has a multiple of our population.

And you are OK with this?!!

All you can offer is a bitter and pointless attack on the journalists in question!
You may note that said journalist is a private individual and paid by a company, not from taxpayers.

You do realise Politicians are paid from the public purse!! So their pay and conditions are a matter of public debate.

The pay that Irish politicians receive is properly a matter of public interest, however what stories like these capitalise on is not the public interest but rather the fact that the public is interested in politician's pay - an entirely different angle. They are popular stories rather than important stories. For all his supposed worth as a journalist Kerrigan plays this game as well as anyone else. I'd have a much higher regard for him if he put some effort into explaining to the ordinary Joe/Jill what a billion Euro is, or how NAMA works, but I guess that doesn't sell papers.

The fact that Kerrigan is a private sector employee is irrelevant, what he and others suggest is that public servants (generally, but not always, politicians) have some duty to make gifts to the State because the State is in trouble - well he is a citizen of this State too, enjoying the exact same rights and duties, let him make a gift first.

Clan is spot on hombre, not everyone is taken in by smoked salmon socialists.
All they have to do is find me a rational article by Kerrigan where, in addition to the usual ranting about bankers and developers, he questions the 72% spend of our national budget that is made up of welfare spending and public sector pay. I won't hold my breath.

Do us a favour and do so. And try to be rational yourself some time. All Kerrigan's are rational but gob$hites don't seem to cotton on to that!
Why does Ireland need any more jobs?. There are not enough people to fill the jobs from the last referendum.

We are where we are because we have a servile mindset, doffing the cap to "our betters" and hoping that they won't notice us and punish us for a suspected lack of loyalty. We are a cowardly nation, $hit scared of retaliation. We don't protest because of some fear. We don't do solidarity because we might be noticed in the crowd. Worst of all, we pretend to be wise by making virtue out of necessity. Then we go looking for international respect.

Can I wear a Paddy tee shirt please?

    So I was right!

if you reversed that find me a journalist while ranting about welfare and the PS also has a go at the bankers and developers. Kerrigan is well outnumbered.
