Michael D gets down to cronyism in the Presidential Office early: Sunday Times

Michael D has been rather quick in using his Office for family cronyism rather early - even for a 'socialist'. His daughter Alice Mary and her guest Ken Dempsey were among the 24 people in Newrange for dawn on the Winter Soltisce. Also among the 24 were Leo Varadkar and Ruiari Quinn plus 6 people drawn at random from 35000 who applied. The chamber in Newgrange can only hold 24. President Higgins requested 2 tickets from the OPW.

I also thought this was disgraceful. His daughter should be ashamed, and he should have had more sense. I think this confirms that Higgins is just another grasping politician, and that his sojourn in the park is a retirement bonus to be milked for all its worth.

It could have been worse. The tickets could have been sold to a diesel smuggler. I think Michael D. would have to do a lot worse that this to even register on the corruption scale.

We are no petty people. We are one of the great strokers of Europe. We are the people of Haughey; we are the people of Ahern; we are the people of Lowery the people of Burke, the people of Lawlor. We are not that easily outraged.

The first fruits of an incredibly dirty Presidential campaign. I thought the President was supposed to be above politics, obviously not.

He's the president. If he wants a ticket for his daughter he should have a ticket for his daughter. As for Varadkar and Quinn...
