Kenny to Brief Opposition on FU Deal

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has finally decided to brief the opposition and hence the Irish people on what the outcome was to the Fiscal Union treaty in Brussels on Friday.

After briefing the opposition I assume we will finally learn what was agreed to on our behalf and what is expected of us.

A spokesman for the Taoiseach said the meeting was an attempt by Mr Kenny to provide full information to all the parties in the Dáil.

On Friday, all EU member states except Britain agreed a deal aimed at saving the euro currency.

So, let me get this right, Kenny doing the right thing and briefing the opposition is now spun into something bad?

Good. Fair play to Kenny. The last shower were climbing over each other to say that the IMF weren't about to bail us out... Remember Dempsey and Aherne? Good to get some openness in Govt.

Listening to Cameron talk about if the UK was a member of the Eurozone and the consequences arising from this FU pact, I suspect alot of sovereign loss.

It took him 4 days and loads of questions to decide to do so? It looks as though every other leader in the EU briefed their governments and people on this straight away.

It might look like a good idea to brief the opp in this way but each leader will come out of the meeting and give their own spin on the issue.

What's wrong with Dáil statements followed by a lengthy Q&A session? You know, where we call all be briefed together.

How soon did you expect him to have done this?

The Dail, who he is responsible to, does not sit until tomorrow. It's the first available practicable date to brief them. And, as he has already stated ad nauseam, the details remain to be negotiated and a draft agreement presented, which won't be available until March.

You do know that there have been MULTIPLE press conferences at European level as to the heads of the agreement. It's patently clear what was agreed, in principle.

This is to be welcomed as a break with the past. There is caveat. It is hard to see how it can be a full briefing until the government comes clean on whether it intends to hold a referendum.
