Donegal, Mayo, Limerick, tipp will vote to keep it. Having this on the same day as the Children's Rights one is dangerous. The muck savages might vote that down too. If it does, i want Dublin to declare itself a city state and cede from the soi disant republic.

Excellent news, if true. A ridiculous law that should never have been passed, but will it be repealed if the constitution is amended? Conceivably Ahern could manage to get the amendment passed but leave the law intact.

hmmm @Cato, a lot of manure could have been avoided if a reasonable and honourable debate had taken place -instead an often weak media bolstered the set of decisions that led us here. We have a rich artistic tradition of blasphemy that l reckon should be preserved and celebrated. What a mess!

    About fecking time.

Why the hell did the government bring in a blasphemy law after it opposed a motion at a UN conference on combating defamation of religion?

This is what Michael Martin said to the Dáil.

“We believe that the concept of defamation of religion is not consistent with the promotion and protection of human rights. It can be used to justify arbitrary limitations on, or the denial of, freedom of expression. Indeed, Ireland considers that freedom of expression is a key and inherent element in the manifestation of freedom of thought and conscience and as such is complementary to freedom of religion or belief.”

we have been hoping dublin would cede from the rest of ireland for a long time, if you check donegal people don't bother voting in referendum to do with non political issues ,abortion, divorce etc. one on blasphemy would probably have the lowest turnout on record. the whole purpose of this referendum is to distact attention from far more important matters,i want a referendum on immigration reform.what do you think the chances of that happening are?

Remember that both sides in this referendum will have to be given equal time on TV and radio and will have to be given equal treatment by the Referendum Commission.

There is still a strong muck-savage vote out there...
