On some stuff I have done it was a requirement that no phones or electronic devices were allowed past reception.

As all PS workers have a phone on the desk there there is no requriement to have a mobile at work. The spurious arguements relating to an emergency at home............blah, blah, blah that are used are pretty spurious.

The fact is with camera phones etc the having security to protect data is out the window when you allow people with camera phones through the front door.

Gardaí use their own mobiles for official purposes and are not reimbursed by their employer. They are to discontinue this generous practice now thanks to Lenihan.

Typical of how this country operates.

The Govt aim a kick at the bollocks of the Public Sector and it is the Private Sector that doubles up in pain.

Because that would invite Deputy A to have a quiet word with Minister B, who would firmly pursue the matter with Senior Civil Servant C, who would then transfer the request to Junior Civil Servant D, with the message being put out that the principled fool who said no to Deputy A had now acquired a black mark on his unwritten HR record.

The only thing to prevent this victimisation would be for the unions to insist on a new system. But they've shown they're happy with any shambles, Tallaght Hospital included, so long as their pay and conditions is looked after.

Getting back to this farcical work to rule, it doesn't hurt the government and it doesn't impress the public. Is it really just a case of letting of steam since they don't want to lose pay on an all-out strike, and are even fearful of losing the strike should the public side with the government?

And what is the difference caused by this work to rule, "a job action in which workers cause a slowdown by doing only the minimum amount required by the rules of the workplace "
But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: "I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"
