This is one of the things St. Lendahand boasts about when he claims to have made the "hard decisions". But like most of his claims it doesn't stand up to any scrutiny.

Only 11 quangos axed since Bord Snip report

There were three TDs there for the session immediately after her (Pat Rabbitte, Sean Ardagh and Michael Noonan) and although they weren't there for her speech, Richard Crowley (who was chairing, and yes he looks that good in real life) put what she said to each of them and they really were quite sheepish and waffled around the answer, or in Sean Ardaghs case wouldn't answer at all.

Given all of the above I think what she did today was quite premeditated, and she is seeking to assert the power and responsibilities of her office. RTE were there (separate to Crowley) and she gave an interview immediately following her speech to them. The politicians better bring their "A" game because she is not going to be trifled with. She does not appear to be willing to suffer the way her Office had been treated re the fishing compensation matter at all.

On her way down from the podium I told her I hope she had a helmet ready. I don't want to say exactly what her reply was as I don't think it was for public consumption, but what I will say is that if the Government ultimately do call her bluff they better be ready for all of the consequences.

Good conference in general, well done to the IPA.

Where can Emily go from here, is there a legal route open or must she accept the slapdowns from the FF'ers, soon they will try and force her resignation, cut funding and bury this Report, this lady though is not for turning.

    emily o'reilly

    wow
what a lot of staff for ms o'reilly, i think this is top heavy why would one albeit busy office need so many staff and you can bet they are all paid over the top

as for the oireachtas i think the worst thing that ever happened was to bring cameras into the dail they are all posing and posturing for the nine o'clock news
the opposition ask a question whilst posing, and then they cant wait for the answer because the minister is posing, so they go for a group pose.
I say cut the wires to them god forsaken cameras

This is a typical F F deficiency in the practice of effecient politics. Create the Ombudsman office, because not to do so would show them up as morons; but they don't really believe in it. When a challenge comes along they belatedly do what they meant to do in the first place - guillotine it.
Its really ineffecient to operate in this cute hoor way. But its effective. They can waste money pretending to be all things to all people for PR electoral purposes and do their masters bidding under the table.
(no seanie, its really not time to come out, stay zipped up for feek sake until after the election)

yet another bored and fussy post trying to slyly promote government spin and you can bet they do it for nothing because even this wasteful government wouldn't pay for such obvious trollery when they could be giving the money to more important people.

    Bored: maybe
    Fussy: anything but

Study tonic: he does it so much better.

    There is always the option for the Ombusdman's office taking the Cowen govnt dictatorial decisions to a European court for;
    a. inhuman and degrading treatment of accountability
    b. torture. It probably is torture to talk to a FF deputy who then leaves the brain outside and bodily acts as bovine lobby fodder
    c. just to put it on the record that Harney can claim for once total ignorance and be believed.

I think it is a shame the Ms O'Reilly has now said she will not run for President. Ireland needs more people like this to bring about change.
