    Well how about that

    Thanks to He3:

Baby-faced Bruton may, at first glance, appear not to be such a divisive political figure [...] but Mr Lee’s bombshell resignation has blown a big hole in Richard’s nice-guy image. There are claims of the former RTÉ star being sidelined and "used" by a Fine Gael finance spokes-person suspicious of his abilities and high profile swirling around Leinster House.
Wow, amazing: the same thing has been said on this thread numerous times
    go figure.

How about some damage control here from blue-shirts.ie,
    Anyone?

View Poll Results: Who should be the next leader of Fine Gael?
These results were returned by p.ie users prior to George Lee announcing his resignation: they clearly indicate that a majority of p.ie members wanted GL to take the Fine Gael reins.

View Poll Results: Who should be the next leader of Fine Gael?

    George Lee 503 38.63%

    Richard Bruton 372 28.57%
    Fergus O'Dowd 166 12.75%
    Brian Hayes 49 3.76%
    Denis Naughton 16 1.23%
    Leo Varadkar 99 7.60%
    Simon Coveney 49 3.76%
    Olwyn Enright 24 1.84%
    Phil Hogan 24 1.84%

Even if one allows a generous 10% margin of error (cache bumpers) George Lee still topped the list of potential leaders of Fine Gael.

    Lee represented an enormous threat to both Richard Bruton and Kenny so they did what any crony on-the-make would do;
    they put him on ice.

Some public service workers are obliged to give three months notice. Did George give notice or did he just walk off the job?? Will he remain in the job until a replacement has been found? Or will he be taken back into another public service job having walked out on his constituents? Surely he could have stayed on as an independent and worked some notice?

But of course he might then have missed the deadline for returning without question to his job in RTE.

From what I hear there is no guarantee that RTE will take him back, nor was there any deadline, that's just jilted spin:

Basically he bailed on an overpaid but useless position on the opposition benches; he could not represent his constituents, was getting the cold-shoulder from the FG big-wigs so he did the honourable thing, he stepped down.

How many TDs would show such character.
