He couldn't hack it in the real world and almost in the same sentence where he said he resigned he said he would go back to RTE. Ah yes, RTE with the big cosy PS salary, big pension, secure employment etc etc.
It's high time for all those empty vessels in RTE to be brought down to earth. If he worked in the private sector he would now be on the dole. So much for all the courage people spoke about.

I think myself George Lee very quickly realised the futility of trying to work honestly as a TD. It was a humbling act to resign and say he no longer could do it and I think that shows strength of character. Also he was more than likely kept down and cold shouldered by the old guard in politics who may have thought ' who does billy big shot think he is'. TD's are on a planet of their own. George Lee has said that he only spoke to Richard Bruton only once for 2 mins, why could Richard not have engaged with George to come up with the best possible solution to the economic crisis, no instead its the old mindset ' guard my corner and keep the newcomer down'. Where is the self sacrifice for our country?

But he didn't say he couldn't do it, he said every one else was stopping him. If he'd had the guts to say he wasn't up to the job I could respect him but flouncing off saying everyone's out of step but him was shabby.

It's easy to sit in RTE and criticize.
It's not so easy to engage in the hard graft of politics and make your presence felt. He was so naieve that he probably thought that the FG front bench were waiting around before he came along with no idea themselves about what needed doing, and he was going to be their saviour.
I knew this would be the outcome with G.L. He is a weakling.

what if everybody was stopping him? What if he had tried his best and was blocked ? we will never know now. Maybe he gave up to early but can't say I blame him.

Georg Lee is in his late 40s, a seasoned experienced communicator and economist, it's most unlikely that he couldn't get his ideas heard within Fine Gael or in the media if he felt his voice was getting lost amongst the cacophony of others expressing their views on the economy.

He wouldn't have given up so easily if he had no RTE job to go back to. I think that what brought this to a head was when Kenny offered him the prospect of a front bench position. He knew all along that he had better prospects down the road, but bottled it probably because by then his leave of abscence from RTE would expire. He also realized that life on the outside of RTE is tough. So he chose the safe and secure option for himself and to hell with everyone else.

A lot of what ifs there. He was given the opportunity on VB last night(where no one was stopping/gagging him )to articulate some the great George Lee economic policies ...... he couldn't produce any.

The typical reaction to innovation in Ireland is to either reject it or pilfer it (it's usually both).
I'm not surprised he didn't go down that road.
