Cozy status quo seems more like their ambition. They are demonstrating no desire to take charge and lead us out of FF disasters. Like government back-benchers (front bench too, for that matter) they are over-paid, devoid of balls and an insult to us idiots who elect and put up with them.

Why such cynical inaction?
They have no desire to take the country's helm in these direst straits? They feed Fianna Fail enough rope to hang themselves regardless of the collateral damage to Ireland.

Is that why everyone was so shocked when the news broke yesterday?

I might have some respect for him if, being dissatisfied with Fine Gael, he had resigned from the party (even though he could have taken a little more time to have an influence) and continued to serve those constituents whom he was elected to serve.

George Lee wasn't 'up to it'. Everybody who voted for him (and many others) were conned by him. Let him slink back into his highly paid, sheltered employment where he will be comforted and protected by his colleagues in "the national broadcaster' who will try to blame Fine Gael, Enda Kenny, other TDs, the electoral system, the citizens who elect the TDs, for George's departure.

George Lee departed because he had an inflated view of his own importance, ability and influence. When others didn't immediately make way for his expected 'meteoric rise to the top', he went on a sulk, spoke to no-one in the party and then, to gain as much publicity as possible, made a dramatic announcement blaming everyone but himself.

The most interesting aspect of George Lee's multiple media appearances yesterday was not once did he take any of the blame for his failure to make the impact on Irish political life on himself, it was other people's fault perhaps the party political system's fault but in his opinion the one person who fault it definitely wasn't, was his.

Good point. He didn't show an ounce of humility. I personally think Kenny is a fairly crap leader of the opposition but he's a likeable man and isn't so full of his own self importance that he can't admit to making a mistake.

Apart from sitting around, scratching his arse waiting to be mentored, what did he do in that 9 months? Where are these policies he was gagging to implement? What private members bill did he draft? What did he do as a parliamentarian? How many times did he speak in the Dail?

He may have officially been a TD for 9 months but when you take into consideration the number of days the Dail actually sat over that period it turns out the great George really only gave it approx 63 working days before he decided to abandon FG and the voters of DS. George was never gagged, his input, had he bothered to offer it, would have been more than welcome. But then he's clearly not a team player. His Obama style speech would indicate he suffered from more than a little bit of an inflated ego. Good riddance
