O’Flynn awarded the Friendship Medal of Diplomacy

CORK TD Noel O’Flynn has been awarded the “Friendship Medal of Diplomacy”, the highest honour ever bestowed on a politician by the government of Taiwan (The Republic of China).

The medal was awarded by Mr Timothy Yang, the Taiwanese Foreign Minister, for Deputy O’Flynn’s contribution to the advancement of bilateral relations between Ireland and Taiwan, and for Deputy O’Flynn’s role in the promotion of the Visa-Waiver Scheme, which commenced on July 2nd of this year.

Deputy O’Flynn and Sligo TD, John Perry are the first two Irish politicians to receive this honour, which was presented to them at a ceremony in the Taiwanese capital Taipei.

Working closely with the Taiwanese Representative in Ireland, Mr David Lee, Deputy O’Flynn has done substantial work in the promotion of business, tourism, education and cultural links between Ireland and Taiwan.

Fair play to Deputy O'Flynn. It's great to see at least some of our politicians actively promoting Ireland abroad.

He couldn't promote Ireland in Ireland , unless there was something in it for him.

He has always defended his constituents even when it was politically unpopular for him to do so. He has never put his own interests above those of his own constituency.

you're having a laugh. By even engaging with taiwan not to mention collecting this mickey mouse gong, O'Flynn is putting in jeopardy the billions of trade that we have with China, something that the government has worked hard on in recent years.

Everyone in cork knows that fatso flynn is a blubbering idiot, now the whole country knows it

By way of balance he re-assured Beijing with his robust statement that the "Chinese were a great bunch of lads" .
