CORK TD Noel O’Flynn has been awarded the “Friendship Medal of Diplomacy”, the highest honour ever bestowed on a politician by the government of Taiwan (The Republic of China).
The medal was awarded by Mr Timothy Yang, the Taiwanese Foreign Minister, for Deputy O’Flynn’s contribution to the advancement of bilateral relations between Ireland and Taiwan, and for Deputy O’Flynn’s role in the promotion of the Visa-Waiver Scheme, which commenced on July 2nd of this year.
Deputy O’Flynn and Sligo TD, John Perry are the first two Irish politicians to receive this honour, which was presented to them at a ceremony in the Taiwanese capital Taipei.
Working closely with the Taiwanese Representative in Ireland, Mr David Lee, Deputy O’Flynn has done substantial work in the promotion of business, tourism, education and cultural links between Ireland and Taiwan.
